GCN has been given funding from the Gloucester County Council's Thriving Communities Grant - 2024, which will allow us to carry out a number of community activites this year, including our monthly Wellbeing» and Forces Hub (FHUB)» groups and WORS» educational project with local schools.
The grant has also enabled GCN to host another disabled Veterans' excursion, this year to Bletchley Park.
GCN will again be decorating the Churchdown Village and poppy collecting at Churchdown Tesco Store. This year's Remembrance Service will be held at St Andrews & Bartholemew's Church on Sunday, 10th November 2024.
GCN is continuing with our core projects, whilst we seek more funding through grants, which include our monthly Wellbeing» and Forces Hub (FHUB)» groups and WORS» educational project with local schools. GCN will again be decorating the Churchdown Village and poppy collecting at Churchdown Tesco Store. This year's Remembrance Service will be held at St John's Church on 12th November 2023.
This year we have all managed to start returning to some semblance of 'normality' post Covid-19. Because of this, GCN have only organised and attended a handful of events that represent our core projects: WORS», FA4A» and GIVS».
We, along with much of the UK and the world, were deeply saddened at the announcement that H.R.H. Elizabeth II had passed away so soon after the nation-wide 70th Jubilee celebrations.
Although we are not completely 'out of the woods' with regards to Covid-19, GCN has been supporting Individuals and Organisations where possible and we have been able to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Imjin Barracks as well as preparing for the 100th Anniversary of the British Legion and Poppy Appeal.
Although the Covid-19 Pandemic restrictions in place throughout 2020 meant that many of GCN's planned activites had to sadly be postponed, we were still able to take part in various important events.
GCN has attended many events throughout 2019 helping to raise money for Military Charities as well as our own GCN Wars Out Reach in Schools (W.O.R.S.) project, which has enabled us to buy WW1 Military equipment such as WW1 Uniforms.
We have then been able to attend various School Assemblies as well as carry out WW1 History Workshops in Schools in and around Gloucester, which has helped bring the learning of WW1 to life.
GCN was formed in 2018, before this website existed. During 2018, GCN attended a number of events and published them on GCN's very first website called GLOS100»
This was due to the fact that it was 100 years since the end of the First World War and Chris Auker-Howlett (GCN Founder) didn't want the year to pass without commemorating it in some way.
