Chris Auker-Howlett about his journey from veteran to civilian. After being medically discharged from the army, Chris was about to begin the biggest battle of his life.

GCN offers the following FA4MH courses:

GCN may be able to offer courses, for a minimum suggested donation, to businesses within this area, the proceeds of which will help us to provide free (or for a lower suggested donation) for people and community organisations within the Tewkesbuy Borough Council area.


GCN may also be able to offer courses, for a minimum suggested donation, to businesses and community groups outside of these areas, with all funds generated being ploughed back into our First Aid for Mental Health community project (FA4MH).

First Aid for Mental Health Qualifications:

  • Awareness of Mental Health First Aid (level 1 Award - 4 hrs)
  • Mental Health First Aid (Level 2 Award - 6 hrs)
  • Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (Level 3)

FREE ANNUAL Refresher Sessions for:

  • Qualified Mental Health First Aiders and Champions. It is good practice for Mental Health First Aiders and Champions to refresh their skills, the same way physical First Aiders do.

FREE Post Lockdown Survivial Skills - Taster Sessions:

  • Wellbeing at Work - 1hr
  • First Aid for Mental Health at Work - 1hr
  • Attendance Certificates will be issued to delegates for both taster sessions

Do you want to know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of a First Aider for mental health?

We can help you to learn how to:

  • provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a suspected mental health condition
  • recognise and manage stress
  • understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health
  • understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it in place
  • know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace

An overview of the range of the following mental health disorders will be offered at varying levels depending on the qualification being trained on and what support can be offered by both Statutory and Voluntary organisations:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • PTSD
  • Self-harm
  • Suicide
  • Eating disorders
  • Personality disorders
  • Bipolar
  • Psychosis
  • Schizophrenia
