Bio Information about Chris

Background

I am a British Army Veteran, who is a wheelchair user due to being injured during a Military Jungle Warfare Training accident in 1998.

My career in the Military took me to many parts of the world, attached to various units of which I am very proud.

As well as being an Army Chef (RLC), I completed both P-Company and Military Parachute Courses and I served with the UN in Rwanda in 1994.

Why I created GCN

Over the past few years I have been unable to carry out regular paid work due to the worsening of pain and medication for the nerve damage in both knees, resulting in a chronic illness called Complex Regional Pain Syndrom (CPRS) ». Nonetheless, ‘as and when my nerve condition allows me to do so’, and with the continued support of our amazing volunteers, these experiences have enabled me to help identify the needs of individuals and organisations with the resources that are already being provided by other individuals and organsiations. There is a whole range of existing help and resources being provided by our local communities, but it is often the case that many people and organisations are unaware of what resources they have to offer.

As such I have set up this ‘Not for Profit’ networking organisation - Gloucester Community Networking (GCN).

Our initial project that we started with back in 2018 was the 'GLOS100' - WW1 Centenary Commemoration Project ». The GLOS100 will remain online as an archive of information.

Following on from the GLOS100 project, I have now set up more projects related to 'bringing WW1 to life' to help secondary school History students (WORS), First Aid courses and Mental Health Awareness sessions and Veteratans' and Wellbeing drop-in sessions, all of which run at various points throughout the year:
